Book Club

Here are some of the books my book club has been reading. I am really glad to get back into this. I miss being a student and more formally discuss ideas.

1. A lion and a lamb is the real story of the Willard and Rebecca Bean family as they are called on a mission in 1915 to live in the old Joseph Smith home in Palmyra, NY. There are amazing stories of how the Church was able to by Hill Cumorah and build relationships with the skeptical people who lived there. Willard is a prize fighting boxer and is strength is needed in this hostel area.

2. Hitch is a story of a young man during the Great Depression who joins the CCC (New Deal youth work camp) I thought this would be really boring but it actually changed my opinion of all the government help plans during that time. I thought it fostered welfare for decades (which I still think there were abuses) but these kids worked very hard developing national parks and doing soil conservation and were being payed @ 35 dollars a month and out of that money 25 dollars were sent home to their family by mandate. These weren't just hand outs, they worked for it and made the county better for their efforts.

3.The no. 1 ladies detective agency. Fun African detective stories like Encyclopedia Brown books I used to read when I was young. Great book!

4. Were the Heart is: This is a compelling book but very sad at times. I read it before I saw the movie which I am glad about.

Thanks for sharing - I always need more books to read! I feel like I'm running out all the time and go through withdrawals after I finish one without another waiting for me.

You do know that the final book in the Twilight series comes out August 2nd, right? ;) Happy birthday to me! LOL
